Cell Phone Tickets 78.1(1) Driving While Distracted

www.ticketforce.ca

Cell phone tickets have taken a different turn in Ontario - If you are convicted of a cell phone charge you will get 3 demerit points, a 3 day drivers license suspension as well as a $615.00 fine.

When you are in Care and Control of a vehicle it is best to have your cell phone stored away or have it in a secured holder.  You cannot touch your phone while driving- not even for a second.  Even if you are stopped at a red light you cannot touch the phone.

I often have people call my office with a cell phone charge and they have only touched it for a moment while at a red light- you cannot do this.

There are reasons you can use it while driving it is an Emergency reason- such as calling because of an accident.  But, keep in mind what you think is an Emergency and what the court will think is an emergency are two different things.

Some courts will offer resolutions on cell phone tickets- but, others will not.  I always advise people to fight Cell phone tickets and there would be insurance implications.

There have been statistics that state that driving while using a cell phone is more dangerous than drinking and Driving.

We all see it while we are driving. The car new to you is clearly using their cell phone and not paying attention to what is happening around them.  Honestly, it isn't worth it. Even for a second. Keep your eyes on the road!
